The US is adding more Chinese firms to its investors and export blacklist. The investment blacklist expected today is predicted to comprise eight Chinese firms including the largest commercial drone maker as well as biotech firms. Over two dozen firms will also be placed on an ‘entity list’ preventing exports to them from the US. Both lists are made up of companies allegedly involved in the surveillance of China’s Uyghur Muslim minority.

Ghislaine Maxwell trial resumes in a Manhattan federal court. Maxwell is on trial for her alleged involvement in Jeffrey Epstein’s sexual abuse of teen girls which she has repeatedly denied. Her lawyers have also made an unusual request to the judge as the trial commences again for several defense witnesses to testify anonymously.

Angola begins vaccinating children aged 12 - 17. It joins a handful of countries in Africa including Egypt and South Africa which have begun administering COVID-19 vaccines to children. Angola which has registered over 65,000 COVID cases since the pandemic began will also start to give out COVID-19 vaccine booster shots today.

Eight out of the 10 nations most at risk from climate change are in Africa even though the continent contributes the least to global warming and the emission of green house gases. As western nations continue to laud their climate action, a new generation of African entrepreneurs are devising equitable and climate-friendly solutions for some of the most disadvantaged communities.

When did Egyptians start to drink beer? Around 5800 years ago. According to a new study by a research team out of Dartmouth University in the US. The study also revealed that beyond being used as a recreational substance, beer as it was then was also used in rituals. It was also lower in alcohol content and likely a thick and cloudy liquid similar to oatmeal or porridge.

Simão Peixoto, a 39-year-old mayor, and former councilor Erineu Alves Da Silva, aged 45 who had been feuding over a waterpark project and throwing jabs at each other on social media resolved that the best way for them to settle their brawl was through a three round MMA-style fight that took place last weekend.
