Author and feminist bell hooks dies aged 69.
The writer whose real name was Gloria Jean Watkins died on Wednesday at her home in Kentucky. She was considered a pioneer within the intersectional feminism movement, and published around 40 books during her life centered on race, gender, and culture.

The US is adding more Chinese firms to its investors and export blacklist.
The investment blacklist expected today is predicted to comprise eight Chinese firms including the largest commercial drone maker as well as biotech firms. Over two dozen firms will also be placed on an ‘entity list’ preventing exports to them from the US. Both lists are made up of companies allegedly involved in the surveillance of China’s Uyghur Muslim minority.

Angola begins vaccinating children aged 12 - 17.
It joins a handful of countries in Africa including Egypt and South Africa which have begun administering COVID-19 vaccines to children. Angola which has registered over 65,000 COVID cases since the pandemic began will also start to give out COVID-19 vaccine booster shots today.

According to a new study by a research team out of Dartmouth University in the US. The study also revealed that beyond being used as a recreational substance, beer as it was then was also used in rituals. It was also lower in alcohol content and likely a thick and cloudy liquid similar to oatmeal or porridge.
