World’s most dangerous criminal hacking network dismantled by police. A criminal hacking scheme used to steal billions of dollars from businesses and private citizens worldwide have been dismantled by a collaboration of international law enforcement agencies. Police in six European countries, as well as the US and Canada, took over an internet server that was used to run a malware network «Emotet» which allowed scammers to steal banking passwords or ransomware.

Lawsuit against French government for racial profiling by police. Six NGOs in France including Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International, have launched a class-action lawsuit against the French government alleging systemic discrimination by police officers carrying out identity checks who they say target Black people and people of Arab descent.

Despite social distancing rules, Sudanese open their homes to Ethiopian refugees. Many Ethiopians who fled to Sudan because of the conflict in the country’s Tigray region are now finding refuge in the homes of Sudanese who are opening their doors to them. Since November last year, Ethiopian government troops have been fighting the regional government of Tigray leaving over 60,000 Ethiopians displaced to Sudan.

A new Nigerian company is funding African women tech founders. What would happen if you gave up to $25,000 each to several African women to go start a tech company? Well, we don’t have to wonder anymore. First Check Africa, a company started by two Nigerian women, Eloho Omame and Odun Eweniyi wants to give African women tech founders their first check and help improve the representation of women in tech, an industry where reports show it could take 12 years for women to have equal representation.

Africans have been drinking milk as long as Europeans. A white supremacist myth that milk drinking is associated with white Europeans has been dispelled by a new study published in Nature Communications which reveals that Africans in Kenya and Sudan have been consuming dairy products as long as 6000 years ago, perhaps even longer than their European counterparts. The study also disclosed that Africans were drinking milk even before their bodies had the ability to digest it.

Edtech Platfom uLesson raises $7.5m in Series A funding. A Nigerian ed-tech platform that is trying to bridge educational gaps through technology for K-7 - K-12 students across Africa has raised $7.5m in Series A funding, that was led by US-based Owl Ventures. uLesson was launched in 2020 by Sim Shagaya and has received over a million downloads since then. Its content is designed for K-12 students in Nigeria, Ghana, Sierra Leone, Liberia, and The Gambia.
