South Korean opposition candidate elected president. Yoon Suk-yeol, a conservative former prosecutor, declared victory following a concession of defeat by his liberal opponent and ruling party candidate Lee Jae-myung. Suk-yeol will assume office in May in a clime with growing income inequalities as well as increasing threats from North Korea.

U.S. man with transplanted genetically modified pig heart dies. David Bennett, 57 who made history as the first person to receive a genetically modified pig’s heart on January 7th was living with terminal heart disease. While the hospital says Bennett performed ‘very well’ after the transplant, his condition began to deteriorate a few days ago.

The revelation was made by the UK’s Ministry of Defense and was followed by a video that showed the functionality of the weapon which causes more destruction than conventional blasts. South Africa-based expedition pinpoints wreck of the Endurance. The ship which originally went down in 1915 has been identified by a team of researchers working from the South African polar research and logistics vessel and mounted by the Falklands Maritime Heritage Trust. The wreck was located in the Antarctic, at a depth of over 3000 meters and a distance of around 6.4 kilometers from its last known position.

Uganda’s telemedicine platform raises $5m Series A funding. Founded in 2012, the startup Rocket Health is targeting an Africa expansion with this raise led by Creadev,. The platform offers online medical consultation, collection of samples, and delivery of medicines, as well as a USSD code to allow users without an internet connection to access the service.

Dash: Ghanaian fintech raises $32.8M seed to build connected wallets for Africans. The round was led by Insight Partners and will grow the startup founded in 2019. This new funding will allow the company expand to Tanzania and South Africa.
